Top five company car sports cars

COMPANY cars don’t have to be neutral-coloured saloons or estates – there’s a whole world of exciting machinery out there for you to choose from, including sports cars. And as SME owners looking for the right car for your business, or company car drivers in an SME firm with a free choice of car, why not brighten up your commute every day?

We’ve brought together five of the best coupes and convertibles on the market that also won’t cost you the earth in company car tax.

Audi TT

Yes, there is a diesel version of the evergreen Audi TT but we actually think the 1.8 TFSI petrol is the better choice for company car buyers, and possibly even the pick of the range.

Like the rest of the line-up it still looks great and it offers buyers really grown-up and agile handling but because it has a very light engine in the nose it feels like the sharpest of them all.

The engine provides plenty of acceleration and it even sounds pretty good, too. What’s more, because it’s cheaper than the diesel, and doesn’t pick up the 3% diesel penalty, it’ll actually cost buyers less in company car tax.

  • From: £26,350
  • Company car tax rate: 22%
  • Economy: 44.1mpg
  • 0-62mph: 7.2 seconds

Toyota GT86

The GT86 is a new name on the sports car scene but it’s already earned itself an impressive reputation.

It won a whole host of ‘car of the year’ awards in 2012 because of its back-to-basics approach, which pairs a four-cylinder boxer engine up to a slippery rear-wheel drive chassis. The result is a car that feels about as pure as you can find these days, and all at a pretty affordable price.

BMW 420d

The BMW 4 Series is also a new name but it’s an old concept really. BMW has started filling in the gaps in its range, so the 3 Series Coupe has now become known as the 4 Series.

Based on the latest generation 3 Series, this car benefits from a more stylish design, sharper handling and extra equipment included as standard. There’s a fantastic range of company car-friendly engines, too, but our pick is still the 420d.
