Specialties of Automotive Timing Belts

Share

18 March 2013

MAINTENANCE of a car depends on each car’s certain car parts. The engine and other critical parts of a car are immensely valuable when it comes to this topic. As per our prolonged data collection, many of the car manufacturers employ some common equipment in their cars, and one of the most popular among all of them is the timing belts. It is a part of the internal combustion engine of a car. It controls the camshafts of the engine. It also controls the closing and opening times of the valves of the engine. It is a flat belt with teeth on one side which fit with the camshaft and crankshaft pulleys to control them accordingly.

The basic function of a timing belt is to maintain an inter-connection between the crankshaft and camshaft. The timing belt kits also controls the closing and opening of engine valves. However, in some cases, timing belts drive other engine components, such as the engine pump, oil pump, and water pump.

Now, there are various opinions in regards to the life span of an automotive timing belt. Various life spans usually depend on the quality of the belt, the quality of lubricant used in the car, and the quality of fuel in the car. In most cases, they last about 60,000 to 100,000 miles. However if the owner of a car uses it extremely rarely, or if he does not lubricate the timing belt of the car with high quality lubricant in a regular manner, the automotive timing belt could  get damaged and wear out or crack.

Damage to your timing belt will stop the car. In such cases, the owner of the car should visit a ceritified mechanic to fix the issue. However, if you are good with a wrench this is not an impossible DIY project
