FLEET sales director at Hyundai, Guy Pigounakis, is in no doubt: IONIQ is the car to raise the profile of Hyundai, that will change the way Hyundai is perceived by leasing companies and corporate customers.

The new IONIQ is the Hyundai hatchback that you can order in three flavours of green: as a hybrid, as a plug-in hybrid, and as a full electric vehicle.

Both the hybrid model and the EV are due here in the UK by October, while the plug-in hybrid version will be available from spring 2017.

“I think IONIQ has the potential to really raise our profile to customers,” explained Guy. “We’ve already had approaches from third parties whom we have not been in contact before due to the car’s very strong green appeal.

“I realise it’s going to be difficult to prise people out of a Prius, but the opportunity is with big corporate customers who are focused on emissions and environmental targets.

What’s the IONIQ like to drive?

“The other areas where we expect to gain traction is with London cab firms as well as the public sector.”

Pigounakis also said Hyundai would be following up IONIQ launch with its all-new i30 replacement, in market March 2017. “The new i30 is a really strong proposition for us that will provide us with a real stand out in the C-segment.”

Also in Pigounakis’s fleet plans was a programme to change the way dealers approached the local fleet market. He said the revised programme was already in place and would commence in January 2017.
