Best SME director's car: cars for the successful director of a small and medium sized enterprise (SME)

Author: Sam Hardy

Winner: BMW 520d EfficientDynamics

Here’s a car that proves you can have your cake and eat it. And then go back for more. The 520d ED is by far the pick of the 5 Series range – it combines a few careful enhancements (such as aerodynamic wheels, low rolling resistance tyres and longer gearing) and the results are 62.8mpg and 119g/km. Incredible figures for such a large car. But the best part of the experience is that it’s brilliant to drive, with a cushioned ride, gutsy performance and a quality cabin. Take our word for it – there is no better 5 Series.

Commended: Jaguar XF 2.2D

Finally Jaguar has given business car drivers a diesel. It may not be the cleanest or greenest, but it’s still a classy machine. You’ll want one.

Commended: Audi A7

Combine a gorgeous sportback shape and a powerful 3.0-litre TDI diesel engine and you’ve got one highly desirable head-turner.

Commended: Mercedes CLS

The car that started the four-door coupe craze is still the best – with challenging looks, a truly wonderful cabin and a relaxing driving experience.
