Buyers can choose between, in ascending order, S, SE and GT models, and all cars get Bluetooth, a DAB digital radio, a dash-mounted colour touch screen, an iPod connector, seven airbags, Volkswagen’s XDS electronic differential and an automatic post-collision braking system.
SE models also have sixteen-inch alloy wheels, rear map-reading lights, automatic lights and wipers, and a variety of additional safety systems.
These include ADC (automatic distance control) with Front Assist and City Emergency Braking, a Driver Alert System and the Pre-Crash preventive occupant protection system.
GT estates add seventeen-inch alloys, sports suspension, more deeply tinted rear windows, sat nav, electrically folding door mirrors and parking sensors.
Under the bonnet, petrol options include 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre TSI petrol units. The 1.2 is available with either 85 or 105PS, the 1.4 with 122 or 140PS (in the latter case with fuel-saving cylinder deactivation technology).
In addition to the BlueMotion version due later this year, there are two 1.6-litre TDI diesels turning out 90 and 105PS, and a 2.0 TDI producing 140PS. All look good company car options.
