265 – Low carbon transport

Share

6 August 2009

I HAD a new Ford Mondeo Econetic to try at the weekend to transport me, triathlon gear, and the family up to London’s Docklands for the Mazda London Trithlon.

The Mondeo Econetic is the latest model with the new 2.0-litre engine but with low emissions of just 139g/km CO2 (that’s a company car tax band of just 18%) and over 54mpg.

The bike loaded into the boot easily, and it took our overnight bags (we stayed up in Docklands the night before the race); and the satnav guided us through the London traffic most of the time successfully.

The Econetic Mondeo is a fine example of how car makers are continuously lowering CO2 emissions – and with them business car costs.

Of course, it’s not such an eco-friendly mode of transport as my Bianchi racing bike. But it does have the advantage of comfortable seating for five…And a longer range!
