What can 25,000 incident reports teach you? Well for car accident solicitors Your Legal Friend, a great deal! The UK solicitors took 25,000 reports from their data and found some really startling insights into our roads. Buckle up; it’s time for some facts!

Venus vs Mars

A whopping 70% of drivers who are responsible for road accidents are men, according to this study anyway. Could this once and for all end the stereotype that women are the bad drivers? In terms of whether or not you’re more likely to be on the receiving end of a collision, the numbers were much more evenly split, with 59% of the victims in accidents being male.

Older…and wiser?

You may expect the teens and those in their twenties to be the worst drivers, given the cost of their premiums, but it was found that 30 year olds were much more likely to cause an accident; maybe those high premiums are doing their job after all! Unluckily for those in their 30s though, the age you are most likely to be on the receiving end of a crash was 32.

Friday?

Fridays in July, that means lazy days, late nights and… car accidents? We tend to associate car accidents with the colder months, with wet or icy roads but maybe we assume too much. Your Legal Friend found that accidents were more likely to happen on a Friday and in July. Who knows why? Maybe the summer sun makes our driving more carefree? Or maybe the predictable English weather makes our July’s wetter than we would think.

Have a fiesta

Ford fiesta drivers are not having the best luck. The car most likely to be the source and to be the victim of a collision is the ever prevalent ford fiesta. Number 2 on the list of most likely to be the car who’s owner caused an accident was the Mercedes benz sprinter whereas Audi drivers were number 3 down on the list of cars most likely to be on the receiving end of a crash.

Sounds backwards to me

A rear end collision was found to be the most common type of crash with a massive 38% of all collisions. Other common collision types were junction collisions, which accounted for just 13%, and after that, roundabout collisions which came in at 6%.

North south divide?

Up north, Halifax and Liverpool were 1 and 2 respectively for locations with the most collisions. Further down south, Poole and Waltham cross were 9 and 10 on the list. Although, barrow featured at number 8 and Barking was number 4.

While we can have a bit of fun with the numbers, a car accident is a serious, potentially life altering event. Truly, it can happen to anyone and victims can lose their ability to work or enjoy their life as they recover from injury. Solicitors like Your Legal Friend provide this information in the hopes of raising awareness of collisions in the UK; and challenging some our ideas of who might be responsible.
