Business Car Manager Verdict
The changes Volvo has made to the S60 appear minor in isolation, but they transform its desirability for company car drivers.
With a CO2 figure just under that magic 100g/km figure, company car tax bills are reduced significantly in the Volvo S60 D4, and by as much as £70 per month against a similar BMW 3 Series.
With a company car tax rate of just 14 per cent in 2013/14, and a lower P11D value than many of its rivals, a monthly company car tax bill of just £54 is possible if you choose the Business Edition model.
For business buyers looking to buy privately the appeal of zero car tax and lower fuel bills will appeal, while all buyers will be happy to see a significant increase in performance.
Beyond the class leading numbers, it’s all the Volvo you expect. Comfortable, reliable and safe, it’s like driving a big Labrador, but this time with a little bit of whippet thrown in.
That might just be enough to get buyers out of the traditional German Audi-BMW-Mercedes triumvirate, and without any feeling of choosing second best.
What Volvo has achieved here is remarkable, and bodes very well for the future.
