PLAYERS and management at Aspire Powerchair Football Club, current holders of the Wheelchair Football Association (WFA) cup, are celebrating a great start to the season after securing Vanarama as their key sponsor for 2015/16.

The Aspire club, which trains at Watford’s Woodside Leisure Centre, is now sponsored by Hemel’s commercial vehicle leasing firm www.vanarama.co.uk which is also well-known for its sponsorship of the National League.

Aspire PFC is part of the Aspire Powerchair sports club, which has three teams playing in the WFA Premier league providing the opportunity for over 30 young people of all ages and disabilities the chance to enjoy football.

With no government funding, securing sponsorship is vital to the continued success of the club and so they are delighted Vanarama now backs the powerchair soccer champs.

Vanarama managing director Andy Alderson said: “Being a football fan myself, I know what a positive impact playing and supporting a team can have on family life – kids learn a lot playing in a team sport – and ‘the beautiful game’ provides a shared interest the whole family enjoy, players, parents and siblings alike.

“We already sponsor the Vanarama National League and having seen Powerchair Football I know it’s just as exciting as the running game.  By sponsoring Aspire PFC we are helping ensure that local people with disability can continue to play the sport they love at what is a really high level.”

Phil Morrell, whose son Jack has been playing for Aspire PFC for 12 years, agreed. “Whether in a chair or not, football brings families together.  It’s great for all the players to enjoy a fast-paced competitive game, but also provides them with another group of friends with a shared interest so is fantastic for the social side of things too.

“It’s such a relief that Vanarama has generously provided funding so the players can continue to defend their title next season and importantly, enjoy time with their friends.”

Aspire PFC will be playing rivals Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Nottingham, Everton, Manchester, Bolton and Northern Thunder in the The WFA Premier League.  They have their sights firmly set on becoming national powerchair football champions again!
