With the ‘ultra’ efficiency treatment the sleak A7 Sportback turns into a remarkably economical business car, given its size and performance

AUDI has announced an upgrade to the A7 Sportback.

The big news is that the A7 now gets the “ultra” efficiency treatment – already applied to the A4 and A6 – which means a big powerful 3.0-litre diesel capable of returning a combined 60.1 mpg with CO2 emissions of just 122g/km so your company car tax rate is cut to 20%.

Externally, the revised A7 gets a new hexagonal interpretation of the Audi single-frame grille, reshaped bumpers and LED headlamps to add to the existing LED daytime running lights.

Inside, new colour and leather options are part of the re-fresh. The latest version of the MMI in-car infotainment system also puts in an appearance, alongside Audi connect 4G connectivity.

Under the bonnet, there’s a choice of two petrol and three diesel engines – all EU6 compliant – offering power outputs up to 333PS.

The highlight for company car drivers will probably be the “ultra” version of the 3.0 V6 diesel delivering that 60.1 mpg and CO2 emissions of 122 g/km, while the powerful petrol 4.0-litre TFSI, with 450PS will be the performance choice.

Transmission options include a seven-speed S tronic on some models, as well as quattro four-wheel drive. The Audi drive select dynamic handling system is standard, while buyers can also opt for dynamic steering, sports suspension and adaptive air suspension.

The revised Audi A7 arrives in the UK in the last quarter of 2014, and prices will be announced nearer the time.
