Fast hatch: new Audi RS3

AUDI is extending the RS performance line of its models with a new Audi RS3 model.

The new Audi RS3, featuring five-cylinder turbocharged firepower from the Audi TT RS, thumps the RS3 five-door Sportback up the road to 62mph in just 4.6 seconds.

The RS3 really promises to be some drive. There’s 340PS on offer, the prospect of thumping low-down engine response thanks to 450Nm torque, and a seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission and all delivered with Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive. CO2 emissions are high, though, at 212g/km.

Naturally, the Audi RS3 looks the part, too. The chassis is lowered by 25mm compared with the standard A3, and there’s a widened, 1,564mm track. There are 19-inch alloy wheels shod with 235/35 series tyres at the front and 225/35 at the rear. The standard wheel finish is a machine-polished titanium look, but a black finish with red rim inserts is also available as an option.

Inside there are sports seats, Nappa leather and a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel.

The new Audi RS3 will be available to order from December priced at L39,900 OTR. First deliveries are expected to begin in April 2011.
