UK a leader in the green surge in Europe

Green shoots up

  • UK second top in green vehicles in Europe;
  • 62.4% rise in alternative fuel registrations ion Q2;
  • EU overall increase of 22.6% for green vehicles;
  • Norway leads the boom with 74.1% rise totalling 11,614 new registrations.

THE UK is among the leaders in European countries turning to green fuel solutions according to latest figures released for the second quarter of 2015 by the European Commission (EU).

Registrations of alternative fuel vehicles in the UK leapt by 62.4%, followed by France at 59.7% and Spain with 58.0%.

Only Norway had a larger uptake of alternative fuel vehicles which increased by 74.1%, with 11,614 vehicles registered of which electrically powered accounted for 77%.

The trend was reflected through the EU countries with an overall surge of 17.4%, totalling 143,595 vehicles of which, electric vehicle registrations significantly grew by 53.0%, rising from 18,024 units in Q2 2014 to 27,575 units in Q2 2015.

Demand for new hybrid vehicles also increased up 22.6%, totalling 53,443 vehicles. Propane and natural gas powered vehicles totalled 62,577 new passenger cars in the second quarter an increase of 3.0%.
