High mileage business drivers with a Toyota Avensis, Auris or RAV4 could find a recall notice landing in their email or post box.

Toyota GB is issuing the safety notice for an estimated 65,000 versions of the three models after it was found routine work on a rear wheel may result in it coming off.

The fault was found after nine models crashed in America but there have not been any reported UK incidents and Toyota GB want to ensure every driver is aware of the potential issue and is kept safe.

It is working with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) to contact registered owners and keepers by letter to advise them of the procedure for taking their vehicle to an authorised Toyota repairer for the necessary repair work to be done.

The issue affects
RAV4 produced between November 2005 and August 2010,
Auris produced between February 2007 and March 2011
and Avensis produced between November 2008 and January 2011

The concern is related to potential insufficient tightening of the nuts for the alignment of rear wheel.

Toyota is currently advising owners of this safety recall and will notify again as soon as a repair is available. When the repair is available, customers will be advised to make an appointment to have their vehicle inspected at a Toyota Centre. The inspection and subsequent repair (if required) will take place at no cost to the customer.

Jon Williams, Managing Director of Toyota GB PLC, said, “We are committed to putting the customer first and have a total focus on the quality of all our products. We will liaise with our customers to carry out the repair procedures as efficiently as possible, with minimal disruption.”

Business car leasing companies will be advised and they will have a duty to inform the user and our company car driving advice tells you what you should look out for if you have an unexpected breakdown.
