“Yes, ours are not the cheapest at the time they are fitted. But if you look at whole life costs there is a dramatic difference in performance and therefore in real costs”.
That is why, he said, that many fleets are moving to Michelin-only sourcing policies, as Co-operative Funeralcare and Benfield Contract Motoring have recently done.
According to Michelin UK’s Product Marketing Manager Steve Dolby it is important to look at longevity as it is not something that is included under the new tyre labelling legislation.
“We encourage all fleets to look at their own data and monitor tyre mileage performance because it helps them make a more informed choice based on long-term value.”
That would be the same Steve Dolby who was at Elvington airfield in Yorkshire on June 25th, just days after Le Mans, as Michelin tyres – very similar in construction to those used at La Sarthe – were fitted to Lord Drayson’s Lola B12 69/EV. Drayson duly broke the sub-1000kg Electric Land Speed Record with a time of 204.185mph.
