It does this parking ‘trick’ through something called Parallel Park Assist.

The new Parallel Park Assist system is an option on the Audi A3 cabriolet. It costs £725 on SE and S line models. It’s £925 on standard A3 cabriolets.

How does Parallel Park Assist work on the Audi A3 cabriolet?

As the Audi A3 cabriolet drives along the road, at speeds of up to 19mph, ultrasonic sensors seek out suitable parking spaces. When it finds one, it alerts the driver using the Driver’s Information System (DIS) located in the dashboard.

Next, the driver engages reverse gear and touches the accelerator pedal. Then Parallel Park Assist uses the electromechanical steering to guide the car into the space in a single manoeuvre.

The driver can hand over complete control of the steering to the car itself during the manoeuvre. However, for safety reasons, the driver remains in control of the throttle, brake and clutch.

Front and rear parking sensors then help the driver position the car as desired within the parking space.

Parallel Park Assist is available on every Audi A3 cabriolet model.

The A3 cabriolet range is priced from £19,995 to £27,060.
