Tesla Model S 60kWh
Big is beautiful – the huge touchscreen gives you control over the car’s most important functions

What’s good?

  • The exterior design is subtle but perfectly executed so makes for an incredibly eye-catching image. There’s no denying it’s a big car, around the same size as a Mercedes E-Class but its well-weighted proportions masks its size well.
  • Touch sensitive doors give entry to one of the most advanced and inviting cabins around. A huge 17-inch touchscreen dominates the cabin and gives owners access to all of the car’s major functions.
  • As the Model S is electric, there’s no chunky transmission tunnel running through the centre of the car so it feels incredibly spacious inside.
  • 0-62mph is still dealt with in 5.9 seconds

  • Over the flagship model, the 60kWh version of the Model S uses a smaller and less powerful battery. Rather than 469bhp you get 298bhp, but 0-62mph is still dealt with in 5.9 seconds.
  • Although the least powerful Model S in the range it still feels absurdly fast. There’s no delay in power delivery as all 440Nm of torque are available from a standstill, so it feels even quicker than the numbers suggest.
  • Quick yet silent getaways are impressive enough but there’s no car currently available on the market with better overtaking ability than the Model S. If anything, the punch the Tesla delivers at cruising speeds when you accelerate is this car’s party piece.
  • While the battery may be smaller a 215 mile range on a single charge is still achievable.
  • To aid charging times Tesla is also introducing a network of superchargers across Europe. The system will be free to use for owners and can add up 170 miles of range is only 30 minutes.
  • Best of all, despite the supercar-like performance the Model S will cost you less than a supermini to run. A BIK rating of 0% will rise to 5% in 2015/16 and for business users you’re entitled to 100% first year allowance.
