THE new Hyundai IONIQ Plug-In Hybrid will launch next year with a real eye-catching company car tax banding figure of just 9%.

That’s all thanks to CO2 emissions of just 32g/km, and a price around the £22K mark, which should really appeal to business drivers who want to keep their company car tax down.

The IONIQ Plug-In Hybrid is the third electric drivetrain in the unique IONIQ range – both the Hybrid (HEV) and Electric (EV) models are launched this month – which offers three different types of low emission electrified drivetrains.

But Hyundai boss Tony Whitehorn reckons that SME firms who want a green image but aren’t convinced by the full electric route yet will welcome this newcomer.

“People expect green these days,” said Tony. “And for a business the IONIQ says they are green.

“After the Volkswagen dieselgate affair I think that has really helped business users focus on the petrol/hybrid offer.”

The new IONIQ Plug-In Hybrid will be able to run over 30 miles in fully electric mode before the battery requires recharging. The engine is a 1.6-litre ‘Kappa’ petrol engine that is used in the IONIQ Hybrid model.

“SMEs will be moving to our plug-in hybrid based on their own company’s reputation for sustainability and to give their employees the best position regarding benefit in kind taxation,” Tony added.
