Saab-9-5-SportWagon: Swedish for estate car

THIS chunk of Scandinavian styling is the head-turning new Saab 9-5 SportWagon.

The new Saab 9-5 estate car, which joins the already launched 9-5 saloon, will be launched at the Geneva show in March. Order books for the new Saab 9-5 SportWagon will open in spring for September customer deliveries.

Apart from the dramatic body shape, there’s practicality to back up the stylish looks: Saab says the SportWagon has an adaptable multi-fold floor, flexible U-rail load space configuration and under-floor stowage with a sealed wet storage compartment. A programmable, powered tailgate will also be available.

Load length with the seatbacks lowered is almost two metres (1,962 mm) while load capacity is 527 litres with the rear seats up. The cargo side walls are flat and upright, too.

Power will come from the same all-turbo petrol and diesel engines as the 9-5 saloon, while there will also be the option of Saab’s XWD all-wheel-drive system.
