Honda Jazz 1.3 IMA Hybrid HX

The Honda Jazz might not be the most obvious choice as a business car, but stretch into the upper prices for a Jazz, and you find something wonderful – a hybrid model. This car has won several awards and it offers an excellent drive.

My pick is the second from top 1.3 IMA Hybrid HX. This has generous equipment, including cruise control, climate control, automatic headlights and wipers, Bluetooth, power folding mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, heated leather seats and heated washers. The only thing missing is sat nav, but that can easily be remedied with a third party system.

This car will return a combined fuel economy of 62.8 miles per gallon with a CO2 output of 104g/km.

Company tax at 20% is £499 whilst at 40% it’s £998. Benefit in kind is £2,495.

With Honda’s new 1.6 diesel the Civic makes for a very cost effective company car

Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC SE-T

Price: £20,770 on-the-road.

The Honda Civic is an excellent hatchback for business. It is available with exciting in-car technology and a range of economical engines. The version I recommend for business in 2014 is the Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC SE-T, which is a mid-range model with the most efficient engine and good equipment.

Standard equipment in this car includes electric heated mirrors, Bluetooth, climate control, alloy wheels, satellite navigation, and a hands free phone kit. There’s no cruise control, but at this price, the Honda Civic is a steal.

The 1.6-litre diesel engine is highly efficient. It will return a combined fuel economy of 78.5 miles per gallon with a CO2 output of 94g/km. That makes this car kind on the wallet, kind on the environment, and kind on company car tax.

Speaking of tax, the Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC SE-T costs £580 annually at 20% and £1160 annually at 40%. The benefit in kind is £2900 and the percentage charge is 14% for 2013 / 2014 year.

The Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC SE-T is available from Vertu Honda.
