INCREASING numbers of company car users are quoting one of Dolly Parton’s famous tunes to their fleet managers, ‘Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes-Benz, or a BMW, or an Audi…’

Because while salaries have remained pretty static the choice of company car has never been more important and luxury brand badges are more sought after than ever, according to latest research.

Sewells Research and Insight has found that BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz (pictured) are dominating the choices when it comes to the next company car.

In the largest study of its kind across the fleet market, almost half of those questioned in the Fleet Operator Attitudes Survey rated the German power houses as the most desirable company cars, with BMW topping the list with 19% of the votes.

But this gives SME small fleet operators something of a headache, said Simon Staplehurst, commercial manager at Sewells Research and Insight. He said: “We are also seeing company car  managers torn between delivering what their drivers want, which is everyday prestige, against what their budgets can deliver.
