IT’S not the sort of thing you do every day – scribble your signature on the upholstery of one of Audi’s finest – but when the signature belongs to actress Gwyneth Paltrow that does tend to change things a bit.
The normally rather expensive Audi RS6 Avant – £77k to you and me – went for an astonishing £120,000. And all thanks to the additional squiggle from the Oscar winning actress.
The rather special RS6 Avant was auctioned at the annual Elton John White Tie & Tiara Ball, held at the home of the singer-songwriter and his partner David Furnish.
All proceeds from the auction of both the Audi supercar, and the other items auctioned, went to the Elton John AIDS Foundation – a total of £3m.
“Audi was delighted to donate the unique RS6 Avant for the equally unique White Tie & Tiara Ball. We are thrilled at the benefit it will give to Sir Elton’s AIDS Foundation, which does such outstanding charity work, and very proud to be continued sponsors of the Ball,” said Jon Zammett, head for PR for Audi.
When the Audi RS6 Avant isn’t having an ‘interior enhancement’, it’s capable of a 0-62mph sprint time of just 3.9 seconds, thanks to its thumping V8 and 560PS power output .
Gwyneth Paltrow is no stranger to Audis, either. She drives one in character as Pepper Potts in the Iron Man action series, as well as when she’s off camera and driving around London or Los Angeles.
