RAC’s business services has agreed a three year deal with EE, the advanced communications company with the 4G network, to bring superfast connectivity to SME company car fleets using RAC telematics system.
The deal marks a significant step forward for the RAC’s in-car telematics solutions, and will enable SME business owners to reliably track and remotely monitor their company cars and business vans.
The system works by embedding an EE SIM card within the vehicle’s telematics system and allows managers to track factors like business mileage, location and fuel economy.
In some circumstances it will even provide the ability to diagnose faults without the need for an RAC mechanic.
Initially, the system will role out on EE’s 2G and 3G networks, with plans to provide 4G connectivity in the near future. The network will also provide insurers with details on driver behaviour – helping determine fault in the event of an accident.
Gerry McQuade, Chief Marketing Officer of non-consumer EE, said: “Rapidly increasing connectivity in the UK is fuelling a boom in M2M (machine to machine) telematics. There are endless possibilities for its application in the automotive sector and this partnership will enable RAC to ensure its customers are the first to reap the rewards of superfast connectivity.”
RAC Director of Business Services, David Aldridge, said: “The RAC is dedicated to developing technology and networks that make significant differences to a business, both on an operational level and to the bottom line.”
Part of a wider range of new business services being launched by the RAC in 2013, the brand is committed to keeping business moving – both traditionally, and in a more 21st century sense of the words.
Aldridge continued: “RAC telematics technology offers company car tracking and can even reduce the risk of accidents by up to 30%, which means that we can keep businesses moving on the roads more efficiently than ever before.”
