What is it?

THE FIRST Porsche production hybrid features a full parallel hybrid drivetrain co-developed with VW. Hooked up to a supercharged V6 petrol engine, the hybrid can drive in full electric mode at speeds up to 37mph. But the real focus of the Cayenne Hybrid is to provide V8 performance with V6 economy. Only available in S specification, priced at £57,610.

What’s hot?

  • Dual nature power plant is highly engaging
  • Silent urban electric motor running and ‘sailing’ motorway mode…
  • …when engine is automatically disengaged for increased economy
  • But adds extra performance when you plant your right foot
  • V6 engine bark is aggressive reminder of the big car’s performance
  • 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds yet 34.4mpg economy
  • Optional air suspension smoothes out ride
  • And chassis has remarkable accuracy for a two tonne car
  • New eight-speed auto slips smoothly between ratios
  • New styling looks less aggressive, more slippery
  • Interior quality much improved on Cayenne Mk1
  • High quality plastics and leather throughout
  • Longer wheelbase adds useful interior room
  • Lever at rear seat base lowers seat backs for extended load bay
  • Impressive 4×4 system when you need it for off-road use
  • Auto stop/start works unobtrusively

What’s not?

  • There’s a lack of interior oddment storage
  • Budget in a hefty amount for extras such as…
  • …air suspension (£1030); PCM display (£2092)
  • Which means you’ll need to understand Porsche acronyms, too
  • Powered tailgate is also a £436 extra
