ABAX Academy: training in technology

  • ABAX develops and supplies software to businesses that operate company vehicles.
  • Software includes fleet management platforms, Triplogs and electronic mileage logs

HIGHLY-rated Norwegian football player Martin Samuelsen has launched fleet management technology specialist ABAX’s new recruitment programme.

The teenage forward, currently on loan at Peterborough United – nicknamed the Posh – from West Ham United, was invited to learn about the work the technology company carries out, in particular its new ABAX Academy.

As a technology company, ABAX develops and supplies software to businesses that operate company vehicles. This software includes fleet management platforms, Triplogs and electronic mileage logs.

The company now employs 20 people from its Peterborough head office and continues to strengthen its position in the industry by working with companies across the UK.

ABAX signed a five-year partnership deal with Peterborough in November 2014 – with the club’s ground now known as the ABAX Stadium.

With a focus on school and college-leavers, the ABAX Academy is targeted not at aspiring footballers but provides an opportunity of a four-week course of theoretical and practical training for would-be recruits in the ABAX technology sales business.

All participants on the programme will be paid and receive a diploma for a completed course. The best students will be offered a full-time sales role with ABAX.

Three ABAX Academy programmes are scheduled for 2016 and a further four in 2017.

ABAX UK chief executive Chris Miller said: “The recent buyout of the UK franchise by ABAX signified the start of an extensive growth strategy for the company.

Our headquarters will be in Peterborough and by the end of 2016 we aim to have nearly 100 employees operating out of this city and from new offices in London, Manchester and Birmingham

“Our headquarters will be in Peterborough and by the end of 2016 we aim to have nearly 100 employees operating out of this city and from new offices in London, Manchester and Birmingham.

“To do this we will need excellent employees and the ABAX Academy is the ideal entry point.”

The academy is based on ABAX’s successful training school model for its new starters, and there are plans to develop similar academies in all the other countries where the company operates – Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands.

ABAX’s head office is in the Norwegian town of Larvik, and 18-year-old Samuelsen is well known in his native country. He started his football career at a tender age and understands the importance of  working hard and seizing opportunities.

He left Norway in 2012 to join Manchester City’s youth academy, signed a permanent contract with West Ham in June 2015 and has been on loan at Peterborough since November, impressing in the 4-0 win against Scunthorpe United.

Samuelsen added: “Seeing a Norwegian-based company prominently supporting Peterborough United is great to see. ABAX clearly has big ambitions for Peterborough and the UK.

“I am pleased to show my support to the ABAX Academy which will give many young people the opportunity to start a career. I have earned many opportunities in my football career and understand the importance of getting support to help me fulfil my ambitions and reach my goal as a successful professional footballer.”
