Nissan at London’s Anniversary Games

  • Official Automotive Sponsor of  2016 Müller Anniversary Games
  • British manufacturer provided logistical support for event
  • British Olympic champion Mo Farah and Jamaican Usain Bolt starred in the opening parade with Nissan NP300 Navaras
  • British Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls set London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park alight with excitement

A NISSAN parade for the stars was a highlight of the weekend’s 2016 Müller Anniversary Games as the car maker showed its backing for British athletes for the final leg of their journey to the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Nissan was Official Automotive Sponsor of the Games staged at The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford, in London to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the London 2012 Olympics.

And in the limelight was the new Nissan Navara NP300 – a winner in its own right as International Pick-Up of the Year 2016 and the pick-up to beat in our review.

The festivities fired off on Friday evening when the world’s fastest man and Nissan’s Global Director of Excitement Usain Bolt waved to the crowds from a Nissan NP300 Navara surrounded by pillars of flame during the opening parade before competing in the 200m race. His last meeting before flying to Rio.

British double Olympic Champion Mo Farah and a number of other British athletes, including Nissan’s ambassador athletes Lynsey Sharp and Richard Whitehead, rode in four Nissan NP300 Navaras and an all-electric Nissan LEAF.

A host of British Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls took part in the two-day event, which proved one of the best weekends of athletics this year. Nissan was there throughout the Games to support its British athlete ambassadors, including Katarina Johnson Thompson, Laura Weightman and David Weir CBE.

Chris Marsh, Nissan Motor (GB) marketing director, said: “Nissan is honoured to be supporting British athletes during this phenomenal summer of sport.

“We will continue to support these athletes as they head off to Rio 2016 via our Team GB and Paralympics GB partnerships.”
