VOLKSWAGEN has released further details of the new VW Polo. The revised range starts at £11,100 and tops out at £19,715, making it a bit pricier than some of its rivals.
The new Polo will have a company car tax banding of 14% thanks to 88g/km emissions
On the other hand, VW has a bit of a story to tell with the updated model. There are new EU6-compliant engines that are up to 23 per cent more efficient than their predecessors, as well as interior refinements such as a touch-screen infotainment and navigation system.
First, the initial engine line-up. There are two three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrols turning out 60 or 75PS, two-four-cylinder petrols producing 90 or 110PS, and a more powerful 1.4 TSI with fuel-saving cylinder deactivation technology rated at 150PS instead of the previous 140 – that engine goes into a new BlueGT model that’s supposed to offer performance and economy in the same car.
The line-up is completed by two new three-cylinder 1.4-litre diesels offering 75 and 90PS – both diesels emit just 88g/km of CO2, but none of the new engines in the starting line-up go above 110g/km.
Later on, towards the end of the year, there’ll be a new VW Polo BlueMotion TSI model – unlike previous eco-oriented BlueMotion Polos, this will have a petrol, rather than a diesel engine – and a new Polo GTI with either manual or self-shifting DSG gearboxes.
