SKODA SUV product manager Luke Ayres says the new compact Karoq will be predominantly a petrol model as it increases sales over the outgoing Yeti.

Joining the larger Kodiaq in the Skoda SUV range, the new compact C sector SUV is expected to do up to 16,000 units in 2018, up from Yeti’s 11,000 in its final year.

And that’s before all specifications and engine options are available.

“We’ll do more petrol than diesel on the new Karoq,” commented Ayres.

“Yeti was 65/35 in favour of petrol, and we’re now looking at same sort of volumes for Karoq possibly going as high as 70/30 towards petrol.”

Ayres said that the Karoq would be biased to the retail sector with a retail/fleet split of 60/40.

“For fleet we expect to see the same petrol/diesel ratios as we do overall. Where we do have conquest sales we expect those to be coming out of compact hatchbacks and larger cars driven by the appeal of lower BIK, lower costs and cheaper acquisition costs,” Ayres continued.

The new Skoda Karoq is available is SE, SE L and Edition.

In addition there’s a specific fleet model – SE Technology.

Karoq SE Technology models feature:

  • 17 inch Triton alloy wheels,
  • Amundsden satellite navigation with an 8 inch colour touchscreen display,
  • adaptive cruise control,
  • and front and rear parking sensors as standard.

Engines at launch are two TSI petrol engines with power outputs of 115PS and 150PS and two TDI diesel engines available in 115PS and 150PS power outputs.

All four are available with a seven speed DSG auto transmission. The 2.0 TDI 150PS engine is equipped with four-wheel drive as standard.

The new 1.5 TSI petrol engine features Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) – this deactivates cylinders two and three depending on driving style to boost economy.

“We have a really good range of economical engines and a very different drivertrain line up to Kodiaq,” said Ayres.

“We have made the choice much more open. It will pay off because we can offer a high spec car with petrol engines and that’s where the market is going.”

Added Ayres: “Our small petrol engine will bridge the gap between our hybrid electric cars to come. Petrol will really take off. And the Karoq will be a big seller for us.”

The new Skoda Karoq pricing starts at £20,875.00 OTR.
