MERCEDES isn’t wasting any time when it comes to launching a hot version of the new S-Class.
The S 63 Mercedes AMG S-Class will make its first public appearance at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show, and the first cars will arrive in the UK by the end of the year.
Given that the standard S-Class models are already pretty quick, Mercedes has had to pull out all the stops to give the AMG car a significant edge.
Thanks to a 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine churning out 585 horsepower and a staggering 900Nm of torque, the new model can blast from rest to 100km/h (62mph) in between 4.0 and 4.4 seconds depending on specification. Top speed is artificially limited to 155 mph.
Short and long wheelbases will be available, and there’s also a 4MATIC all-wheel drive version as well, although those don’t often make it to the UK and other right-hand drive markets.
Sadly, CO2 levels of between 237 and 242g/km mean that the S 63 AMG isn’t really a company car tax winner, but like the combined fuel consumption of 27.4 to 27.9mpg, the emissions are actually pretty good considering the performance – that’s thanks in part to a 100kg weight saving compared with the previous S-Class.
