Volkswagen Passat 2.0 140 TDi SE Auto DSG

What is it?

Family-sized saloon with executive-style quality and a classy diesel engine

What’s hot?

  • A new and very powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine.
  • It’s quick but economical – over 40mpg.
  • You start the car by pressing the key fob into the dash
  • There’s also an Electronic parking brake.
  • The interior is large and spacious, the boot huge.
  • The interior quality is faultless.

What’s not?

We tried it with the innovative DSG auto. It’s an unhappy marriage and ends up making the drive uncomfortable. Try the more conventional Tiptronic auto (also six-speed) or stick to manual.
  • You have to lift luggage over a large lip on the boot.
  • Saloon or estate only – no hatchback.
