Are your drivers aware of the new child seat regulations?

These come into force on 18 September. They are expected to save 2000 child casualties each year.

The law requires all children under 12 – unless above 135cms (4ft 5ins) – to use a restraint.

Penalties for non-compliance start with a £30 fixed penalty.

The Department for Transport has outlined these guidelines:

    • Children up to 135cm in height (and under 12) need to use a child or booster seat
    • Before you buy, check it’s suitable for the child’s weight
    • Check any restraint is securely fitted – especially if the child travels in more than one vehicle
    • Expert advice in-store from Halfords, Mothercare and Toys R Us
