New Audi Q5 joins Q7 in Audi’s SUV line up

Audi has revealed first details of the new Q5 SUV off-road model.

The Audi Q5 is a smaller, more sporting SUV than the larger Audi Q7 model. The Q5 will have seating for five, unlike the seven-seater Q7.

The Audi Q5 will be pitched against the BMW X3, new Volvo XC60, Land Rover Freelander and Honda CR-V.

There will be the choice of three engines: two diesels, and one petrol.

The 2.0 TDI boasts 170PS and 42.1mpg fuel economy. The 3.0 TDI V6 delivers 240PS and 36.6mpg. The petrol unit is a turbo 2.0-litre with 211PS and 33.2mpg.

While the 2.0 TDI Audi Q5 will have a six-speed manual transmission, the 3.0 TDI and 2.0TFSI engines will be mated to Audi’s slick-shifting DSG seven-speed S tronic transmission, which can be used manually or in auto shift mode.

The Audi Q5 will offered in three trim levels: standard, the sportier S line, and an off-road trim that includes front and rear underbody protection.

Measuring 4.63 metres long and 1.88 metres wide, the Audi Q5 sits just 1.65 metres high, giving it a purposeful stance.

Prices and an on sale date have still to be announced.
