The third generation Audi A3 five-door Sportback makes its world debut next week in the Paris show.
With a longer wheelbase than its predecessor and its all-new three-door counterpart, the practical compact is able to offer even more space for company car drivers and their families plus luggage, with barely any increase in exterior ‘footprint’ and up to 1,220 litres luggage space.
Carrying a premium of £620 over its three-door equivalent, the first phase of Audi A3 Sportback models is now open for ordering from £19,825 and deliveries commence in March.
There will be three engines available to business car buyers initially: one diesel, and two petrol – all with stop-start fuel saving technology.
The diesel will be the 2.0 TDI unit, with150PS and fuel economy of 67.3mpg. For company car drivers, CO2 emissions are 108 g/km, which puts the Audi A3 Sportback in the 16% company car tax band for the 2013/14 tax year.
The two petrol engines are a 1.4 TFSI unit with 122PS power, fuel economy of 53.3mpg, and 123 grams of CO2/km. For business drivers, that’s a company car tax band of 16% in the 2013/14 tax year.
And a bigger 1.8 TFSI engine, with vital stats of 180PS, economy of 50.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 130 g/km – good for a company car tax banding of 18% (2013/14 tax year).
To follow will be a real company car tax special – a 99g/km 1.6 TDI diesel engine, plus a 105PS 1.2 TFSI engine and a more powerful 140PS 1.4 TFSI petrol engine.
