IN charge of a small fleet at an SME? Not being allowed to concentrate on the job and getting stressed as a result? You are not alone…
According to a new survey commissioned by RAC Business Services, almost a quarter of all SME small fleet managers are struggling to cope with their role because they have to perform a load of other roles too, and they are getting seriously stressed as a result.
Sounds familiar? Yes, thought it would.
Nearly all, 98 per cent, of the small fleet managers questioned by YouGov for the poll admitted that managing the company cars forms just part of their daily routine. They also have to carry out general management (61 per cent), finances (53 per cent), sales and marketing (40 per cent), HR (40 per cent), new business development (34 per cent), and general admin (32 per cent).
As a result some 23 per cent say they are struggling, with the biggest pressures on those in charge of fleets of 10-50 vehicles. Half of these say they are stressed, and worringly six per cent admit they are “very stressed.”
Not helping is a view that the job itself is getting harder, with paperwork taking the majority of the blame. A quarter of the managers questioned say the admin involved for vehicles and their drivers has increased in the past year, with a third of these blaming more paperwork.
