MERCEDES has unveiled a new generation of its V-Class people carrier – although it’s not expected to arrive in the UK for another year or so. There will be two different wheelbases and a wide range of personalisation options.

The company is emphasising the high quality of finishes and materials on the new car, and several seating permutations will be possible, including the option of a third-row bench that can be converted into a bed.

Two 2.1-litre diesel engines will be offered at first – a 220 CDI with 163PS and a 250 BlueTEC with 190PS.

Combined fuel consumption is expected to be 49.6mpg and 46mpg respectively – the V 250 BlueTEC is Euro 6 compliant and also has automatic transmission as standard.

“With the new  V-Class we are expanding the Mercedes-Benz premium passenger car range with a saloon for up to eight people,” said Merc boss Dr Dieter Zetsche. “Functionality is a must for an MPV. Comfort and style are the icing on the cake. The new Mercedes V-Class combines both in a way no other vehicle in this segment can offer.”
