Mercedes C220 CDI: satisfying drive

Mercedes-Benz C220 CDI Sport Saloon

What is it?

All-new Mercedes C-class with 2.1-litre turbo diesel engine. Badged C220 CDI it’s likely to be a key business car. Sport specification provides big Mercedes three-pointed star on the front grille, plus AMG wheels and body kit together with a firmer and lowered suspension.

What’s hot?

  • Roomy interior with plenty of head and leg room
  • Excellent ride quality despite sports suspension
  • Agile and well balanced handling
  • Strong engine performance but economical on fuel

What’s not?

  • Brash front end styling not to all tastes
  • Cabin is beautifully built but lacks premium class feel
  • Watch the price climb with optional extras

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

A very satisfying car to drive. The engine provides strong performance but with exceptionally good fuel economy. However, despite the Mercedes badge, the interior is disappointingly lacking in premium class feel. If you can live with that, the C-class will make a very good business car.
