NISSAN’S luxury off-shoot, Infiniti, has given more details of its new 3-Series competitor, the Q50.
Prices will start at £27,950 – that’s for the business-friendly Q50 2.2d, which has a 170PS diesel engine and CO2 emissions of 115g/km.
Standard equipment includes stop-start, a rear-view camera, dual-zone climate control, seventeen-inch alloy wheels, split folding rear-seat backrests with ski hatch, a multi-function steering wheel, a voice recognition system; and Bluetooth mobile connectivity and audio streaming.

Further up the scale, starting at £40,000, is the Q50 Direct Response Hybrid. That uses a 3.5-litre petrol engine and a hybrid drivetrain producing a combined 364 PS to get from rest to 62mph in 5.3 seconds but still delivers 155g/km.
Infiniti is hoping that the Q50’s distinctive looks and technology will help it stand out in a crowded corner of the market where it faces very stiff competition from the German premium brands.
“The new Infiniti Q50 challenges the predictable looks and familiar technology of the segment,” said Fintan Knight, Vice President of Infiniti Europe, Middle East and Africa.
“We are calling time on tradition. In particular our ‘Direct Response’ technologies deliver the most advanced performance and handling combination in the sector.”
Business car buyers can make a full business car comparison when Infiniti publishes the full price list for the Q50, including details of trim levels, on 1 July. First deliveries are expected in September.
At the same time, the company has announced that it is adding to its small dealer network by opening a new Infiniti Centre in St Albans in Hertfordshire in partnership with the Glyn Hopkin group.
