  • Handover at new hydrogen refuelling station in Hendon;
  • Fuel cell technology hopes to build on UK government £6.6M investment;

THE latest customer for the world’s first mass produced fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) is the mining company responsible for producing its key ingredient – platinum.

Hyundai has handed over the keys for its ix35 Fuel Cell to global diversified mining business Anglo American – the world’s leading producer of the precious metal.

The handover took place at a new hydrogen refuelling station at Sainsbury’s supermarket in Hendon, which is the latest Smart Fuel Hydrogen Fuelling facility to be built within the UK by leading hydrogen supplier, Air Products.

Anglo American will use its hydrogen-powered ix35 Fuel Cell for general business use and special events in the UK.

Hyundai has announced official UK pricing for ix35 Fuel Cell at £53,105 OTR, which includes part-funding from the Europe-wide HyFive project.
