PREVIEWED at the recent UK launch for the new i30 was the Tourer estate, but Geneva Motor Show was where we got to see in the metal this new member of the range in which Hyundai stretches practicality.

Measuring 245mm longer than the hatch, this extra space is given to the practically-shaped boot that now totals 602 litres and can be extended to 1,650 litres with the rear seat folded. Hyundai claim this is one of the biggest in the small family segment.

Outside, that extra length has been grafted on to the i30 elegantly – the highlight being that tapering, coupe-like roof line.

Hyundai will offer the new i30 Tourer with a choice of two petrol engines (1.4 T-GDI and 1.0 T-GDI) and one 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine with 110PS.

Like the hatch we drove recently, the Tourer has the suite of technology, including five- or eight-inch infotainment systems, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity with the bigger touch-screen.

No prices have been revealed, but the i30 Tourer will hit UK shores by late summer
