Rob Valenta explains why Rock Hunter uses daily rental for business

Robert Valenta, director of Rock Hunter, explains how the company uses daily rental car hire to keep its workforce mobile.

Cars: none

Mobility method: daily rental car hire

Robert is a director of Rock Hunter, an architectural visualisation company.

There are 10 people in the business, including the directors Robert and Jason Mabelis, working from their south-east London office.

None of the Rock Hunter directors or staff has a company car.

However, as the company’s visualisation practice grew, so did the requirement to attend client meetings around the UK.

“We’d talked about buying a car for the business, but it was hard to justify,” explains Robert. “The train didn’t work for us either, so we decided to look at car rental.

We have the flexibility to choose when to have a car without the burden of taxing it

“There seemed to be some great deals around – so we tried it! For the last three years we’ve been using National Car Rental and the service has been very good. It’s so easy to book up at the last minute, too.”

Robert now uses car rental about three times a month. He says Rock Hunter has become much more adept at hiring the car for three day periods and organising more meetings during that time.

“It’s much cheaper than having a car. For us as a small business it means we have the flexibility to choose when to have a car without the burden of taxing it, and so on.

“It’s a smart way for us to operate. Our staff are very environmentally conscious and most cycle into work, so I think they approve of the directors only having a car when it’s absolutely required.”
