There are many different ways to calculate how much of a car’s use is for work and how much is for private purposes. It’s important to know the difference as you shouldn’t be paying for a member of staff’s personal trips. 

However, if you rely upon accurate reporting, you might want to consider investing in mileage capture technology. This allows you to capture what mileage is work-related, thus removing the need for your members of staff to try to remember to report every single trip.

You may have decided a number of years ago what your company strategy for allocating vehicles is. If you are feeling particularly brutal, you might want to consider whether you should keep the same policy or whether you should only be allocating company cars based on need, not status.
