Hydrogen power – how will it work?

The reason behind GM and Honda’s close focus around hydrogen is because it is the lightest element and produces close to no emissions when burnt or used in a fuel cell stack. It will allow them to power their vehicles in an innovative way whilst driving the effects on the environment and hopefully costs too.

Fuel cell stacks combine hydrogen and oxygen from the atmosphere in the presence of a platinum catalyst, allowing for a steady flow of electric current, with water vapour emitted from the vehicles exhaust.

For now however, the venture is at a research only level, with it yet to be announced when we can expect to see vehicles being manufactured as well as whether that will be a part of the joint venture.

One thing that is clear is that Honda and GM are wasting no time in developing their idea and getting everyone on board with their promise of more capable and affordable environmentally friendlier driving.
