Honda Accord Sport GT road test report

Honda Accord 2.2 i-CTDi Sport GT 4dr

Honda Accord 2.2 i-CTDi Sport GT 4dr

What is it?

Sportier version of latest Accord saloon designed to take on Audi’s popular S-line trimmed A4 model. Spec includes 17-inch carbon-look alloys, and SatNav. But this Accord features more than looks: there’s lowered suspension and sharper steering to back up the Sport GT tag.

What’s hot?

Crisp throttle response from superb diesel engine

  • Lack of diesel clatter at tickover
  • Controlled but compliant ride from lowered suspension
  • Sharper steering complements sportier feel
  • High level of specification

What’s not?

  • A not quite suppressed tuneless whine on acceleration
  • Special Honda racing white finish is extra
  • Hands Free Telephone system not the easiest to operate

Verdict

Despite getting on, this latest update shows Accord still has a combination of strong emotional, driver and taxation appeal. It looks good, drives really well, and beats an equivalent Audi A4 TDI S-line on both monthly rental costs (by £72 a month) and tax (by £33 a month for a 40% tax payer).
