David Henry of Your Homes Newcastle and Lois Warne of Zero Carbon Futures: getting plugged into My Electric Avenue

HOW does it really work having an electric car? How does it fit in to your lifestyle? And will the lights go dim if everyone recharges at the same time?

Thirteen employees of Your Homes Newcastle are about to find out with an 18 month trial having chosen a private lease on a Nissan Leaf as part of the My Electric Avenue electric car trials.

The My Electric Avenue project is designed to monitor the impact of charging multiple electric vehicles at any one time on the national grid.

David Henry, environmental sustainability co-ordinator at Your Homes Newcastle, said: “There were lots of people keen to get involved with the trials so when we heard that there was an opportunity to form a business cluster, and test the impact of multiple vehicle charging from our own head office, it was the opportunity we’d been waiting for.”

David said over 50 employees registered to take part in My Electric Avenue and in the end  the business had to resort to drawing 13 names out of a hat.
