Pothole
On average, we’re up to 8 potholes per mile!

Where will the £28 billion go?

Nearly a quarter of the money (£6 billion) will be spent on maintaining and repairing some of the country’s worst roads, with the aim that 80% of motorways and A-roads will be in much better shape by 2020.

The busiest sections of a number of popular freight routes, like the M4 and A14, will be widened to four lanes to cope with the increasing demand being placed on them.

221 miles of brand new, managed motorways will also be built, while £500 million will go towards developing electric and low carbon cars that will help shape a more environmentally-friendly motoring future.

In addition, the Department for Transport is currently carrying out research on the best ways to improve the flow of traffic at snarl-up hotspots.

This all adds up to quicker journey times, less accidents and no need for so many car repairs in the coming years – a great result for anyone who regularly gets behind the wheel.
