The Government has announced a £28 million investment in roads

EARLY in July, it was announced that the government plans to invest £28 billion in the biggest ever upgrade of the UK’s transport and road infrastructure – good news for business travellers who are fed up with having to constantly deal with frustrating routes and substandard road surfaces.

A much-needed change

Motorists, particularly those who have to cover many miles for work, will no doubt have noticed that Britain’s roads are currently in a worse condition than ever before.

The extremely wet weather we experienced during the winter caused a huge amount of damage.

A survey conducted by the AA at the end of 2012 found that drivers now have to tackle an average of six potholes per mile, while research from Halfords Autocentres states that eight million vehicles a year suffer steering and suspension damage thanks to badly-maintained road surfaces – that’s one driver affected every four seconds.

There are now 33 million vehicles in the UK and the reality is that the current road network is struggling to cope, with traffic jams becoming a draining daily reality for company car drivers.

All this potentially means you’re turning up late for more and more meetings, or even that you could end up being stuck with an unfamiliar car for days at a time while your usual car’s fixed up after a run-in with a pot hole.

Frankly, it’s enough to make you want to sell your car and start resorting to public transport instead – but, finally, there’s some light at the end of the tunnel in the form of this new government promise.
