WELL, here’s a rather generous offer: the opportunity to charge up your EV or PHEV FOC!
That’s right.
The people at Pod Point are making its 2,000-strong public charging network – which includes rapid chargers – free to use following Clean Air Day (June 21, 2018).
Pod Point says it wants to promote the benefits of electric vehicles (EVs) for both air quality and climate change.
The EV charging provider did the same on Earth Day 2018 (April 22) and powered more than 147,000 EV miles.
Erik Fairbairn, Pod Point CEO and Founder, said:
“POD Point was founded on the principle that travel shouldn’t damage the Earth. We have made significant progress towards this via our national network of charge points, but we still have a massive amount to do. We hope that making our entire public network free to use for Clean Air Day further accelerates the adoption of EVs.”
Road transport is a major contributor to air pollution. Joint research published last week by the Universities of Oxford and Bath revealed the health costs to the UK of petrol and diesel vehicle-related air pollution – which is linked to a range of conditions, including lung problems and heart disease – to be £6 billion per year, along with 10,000 early deaths..
Pod Point says that EVs do not emit harmful emissions into the air and have lower greenhouse gas emissions over their whole lifecycle.
All charging on the Pod Point public Open Charge Network will be free from midnight on the June 21 until midnight on June 22.
Pod Point app users will charge and pay as usual. But then will be reimbursed any payments made via an in-app credit within 2-3 working days, says Pod Point.
