Household, industry and farm waste could create thousands of UK jobs

TURNING waste into fuel for cars and trucks would create 36,000 new jobs in the UK, a study has claimed.

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) report says that transport fuel from industry, farm and household waste can create 36,000 new jobs in the UK and save 37M tonnes of oil use each year by 2030.

The report also found that across Europe, the advanced biofuels industry could create hundreds of thousands of jobs

Clare Wenner, head of renewable transport at the Renewable Energy Association (REA) said: “The REA welcomes this report which demonstrates that there are huge benefits from using waste to create energy. The REA supports a target for advanced biofuels within EU legislation and we hope that this will give the positive signal so badly needed by this emerging sector.”

The report also found that across Europe, the advanced biofuels industry could create hundreds of thousands of jobs and could replace 16% of the continent’s total road transport fuel by 2030.

REA represents renewable energy producers and promotes the use of all forms of renewable energy in the UK across power, heat, transport and renewable gas.
