ACCORDING to Audi Q stands for Quattro. It can stand for other things too but as the new Audi Q2 TFSI Quattro is the first petrol powered model in the range to be fitted with Quattro all-wheel drive we’ll concede the point.
Especially as it allows for slightly cheesy headlines like the one above. Four reasons…Quattro…you get the idea.
The Audi Q2 itself isn’t new. The compact SUV crossover is already proving quite popular thanks to it’s stylish looks and German engineering. Audi is a desirable brand after all.
The new Audi Q2 TFSI Quattro 190PS S tronic – to give it it’s full name – stands out because it’s the first petrol Q2 to be fitted with the Quattro system. It’s also the most powerful Q2 available.
Designed to maintain traction under any road conditions, the Quattro system distributes the power between the axles to keep the car heading in the right direction. To assist with economy the seven-speed S tronic automatic transmission fitted as standard can operate in free wheeling mode. Set the Audi drive system to “efficiency” and the start-stop function will shut the engine off when speed drops to 4.3mph. Perfect in city traffic.
The 190PS from the 2.0-litre TFSI engine is enough to propel the Q2 to 60mph in around six seconds and it tops out at an impressive 141mph. Not blisteringly fast but given that the Q2 sits in the compact crossover segment it’s enough to give most rivals pause for thought.
Speed aside this particular Q2 does balance economy quite well. Actual figures will depend on which particular trim you choose but expect the Q2 to return around 44mpg and 145g/km. It won’t be the cheapest option for company car drivers but it does offer a reasonable balance of economy and performance that could tempt quite a few.
Available to order in two trim levels, S line or Edition #1, the Audi Q2 TFSI Quattro offers drivers a high specification to go with the solid performance.
The S line features LED headlights and LED interior lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels and front sports seats. The Edition #1 swaps the wheels for larger 19-inch alloys, adds leather to the sports seats, and comes in a unique Quantum grey finish with contrasting grey and black trim.
Both trim levels also include smartphone interface, SatNav, and Audi Connect Infotainment services as standard.
There is a downside to this particular Q2 though. It is an Audi so it probably won’t come as a surprise to hear the new Q2 is quite expensive. Prices start from £31,760 for the S line and £36,750 for the Edition #1. Show any interest in the options list and that number will only get bigger.
You do get a quite a bit of car for the money but it’s still a big chunk of cash that could have a detrimental effect on your tax code. There should be no doubt the new Audi Q2 TFSI Quattro is well equipped, well made, stylish, practical, and relatively fast, but whether that’s enough to offset the additional tax burden is up to you.
