The Tourneo is based on a van – but what a van! Forget any compromises on comfort or handling, the Tourneo well able to hold its own in MPV company

What is it?

A highly functional van morphed into a practical family car.

Ford’s famed driving dynamics have been applied to this vehicle as fervently as to the rest of the car range

Based on a robust Ford Transit Custom – one of those ‘backbone of Britain’ vans – it has the same body with twin sliding rear side doors for easy loading in a tight parking space.

But it also gains windows, six extra seats and added creature comforts to turn it into a compact minibus for a large family group or a very gregarious smaller one.

Or if you prefer, an eight-seater company car. There is even a nine-seater version if you want to drive about with eight colleagues on board as well as yourself.

Is it powerful enough for such a big load?

Of course it is. This is a Transit we’re talking about, designed to carry a heavy payload, so it won’t be fazed by hauling around a works outing of people, or even if used by the executive car hire industry.

Not much cop to drive then?

On the contrary, it is remarkably civilised. If you haven’t driven a Transit Custom van-based vehicle recently, it will be a revelation.
