Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 140PS Titanium X Business Edition: lots of good company car specification…but without a large company car tax bill

What is it?

THE latest Ford Mondeo model aimed at business and company car drivers: hence its Business Edition title.

The Ford Mondeo Zetec Business Edition was launched last year, and the success of this with company car drivers prompted Ford to offer the same recipe but with a more enhanced specification for business drivers.

So we now have the Ford Mondeo Titanium X Business Edition, which includes such niceties as full ebony Windsor leather trim with cream piping. Very upmarket.

But more than just adding further spec, Ford also went the opposite way by taking out some CO2 emissions to make it more company car tax friendly – see Ford sharpens Mondeo company car appeal with new tax-beating package.

Not only that, the P11D price has dropped by £1500 from the previous Titanium X model.

Which all sounds like a perfect combination for a company car driver – more spec, fewer CO2 emissions, and lower P11D value.

The taxman won’t be happy.

You can choose a 115PS 1.6 diesel with start/stop technology with CO2 emissions of 115g/km; or there’s a 2.0 litre diesel in two power tunes: 140 PS and 163 PS. CO2 emissions are the same for both engines.

Alternatively you can chose the 2.0 litre 140PS or 163PS engines with Ford’s Powershift auto transmission, but this bumps the CO2 right up to 149g/km – and beyond the important leasing disallowance tax break.

Our review is of the 140PS manual Ford Mondeo Titanium X Business Edition model.

What’s hot?

  • All the kit – perfect for business drivers
  • The leather finish of the seats is excellent, and the piping gives the interior an upmarket ambience
  • There’s dual zone air con and Bluetooth hands-free with voice control…
  • …rear privacy glass, front and rear park assist, heated Quickclear front windscreen for frosty mornings, plus DAB audio plus touchscreen navigation system
  • Standard alloy wheels are 17 inch although you can opt at no extra cost for 16 inch alloy wheels which improve the ride but don’t look quite so sporty (we’d stick to the 17 inch alloys)
  • Then there’s the reduced CO2 emissions, offering company car tax from as little as £69 a month thanks also to the good value P11D pricing
  • The Ford Mondeo has always been a byword for engaging driving manners: and the latest Mondeo Titanium X Business Edition doesn’t disappoint
  • It corners crisply, brakes securely and runs quietly down the motorway with a dismissive ease of miles
  • And there’s a spacious interior with an equally spacious boot
